Giuseppe Domenico Gallone.

Giuseppe Domenico is born on 19 March 1706, son of Stefano III Gallone and of his second wife Lucrezia di Capua. The Principality is destined for his elder half-brother, Francesco Alessandro, designated heir since 1695; but the latter, married in 1726 to Fulvia de Gaeta, has no children. On his death, in 1753, Giuseppe Domenico succeeds him as 5th Prince of Tricase.

On 7 August 1753, at Caprarica del Capo, the actuary of the Regia Curia of Lecce draws up the act of entry into possession of the casale and its fief in the name of the new Prince, represented on site by his procurator Domenico Trevisoli.

The ritual is the customary one of feudal taking of possession: the procurator walks through the public square, enters and leaves the mother church, opens the prison doors and there administers justice. The possession covers civil, criminal and mixed jurisdiction and the mero e misto imperio. The act, of which the State Archives of Lecce preserve an authenticated copy, attests that the fief had not left the hands of the Gallone.

In 1754 he marries Beatrice Sersale, of the Marchesi Sersale, born in 1737. For the occasion Don Domenico Maroccia drafts a report on Tricase that is one of the rare descriptions of the town in the mid-eighteenth century: a land of some 400 hearths and 600 houses, with twelve beneficed chapels.

Giuseppe Domenico dies on 30 June 1766. Five months later, on 3 December, his son Giuseppe Gerardo is born, who is therefore Prince from birth and grows up under the guardianship of his mother, Beatrice Sersale, until reaching his majority. It is he who, with the Pignatelli marriage of 1796, will open to the house the succession of Moliterno and Marsiconovo.
